Navy ROTC Colleges

Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, or NROTC, develops the core values and backgrounds necessary for young college men and women to achieve careers in the Navy and Marine Corps. Many go on to assume positions of responsibility in military command, government and the private sector. The University of California at Berkeley, Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, University of Washington, and Harvard and Yale Universities housed the first NROTC units. Prairie View A&M was the first Historically Black College to offer the program on its campus. There are 71 colleges in the United States that host the NROTC, and cross-town affiliate colleges bring the total NROTC campuses to 150.
  1. Southern/Southeastern Colleges

    • The NROTC offers Registered Nursing programs on many campuses.

The NROTC at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C., has a longstanding reputation of excellence, earning top honors at Officers Candidates School in 2010. The University of South Carolina in Columbia also hosts the NROTC program. Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina host the NROTC in North Carolina. In Alabama, Tuskegee University and Auburn University host the NROTC, with Auburn offering a Registered Nursing program. Louisiana's Southern University in Baton Rouge hosts the NROTC. Affiliates are Louisiana State University, Southeastern Louisiana University and Baton Rouge Community College. Both Southern and Southeastern Universities offer an RN program. The NROTC at Tulane University in New Orleans has Dillard, Loyola, University of New Orleans and Xavier as affiliates. In Florida, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University hosts the NROTC. Florida A&M, Jacksonville, University of Florida, and University of South Florida provide an RN program, as do most of their affiliates. Vanderbilt University and the University of Memphis are the two colleges offering the program in Tennessee. The NROTC in Virginia is at home in Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Virginia Military Institute. Savannah State University, Georgia Tech (one of the first NROTC units), and Morehouse College provide the NROTC in the state of Georgia. The University of Missouri, which has an RN program, also offers its NROTC program at its affiliate, Columbia College. The University of Mississippi and the University of Missouri are the only colleges in their states offering the NROTC program.

    Eastern/Northeastern Colleges

    • Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Boston University, and College of the Holy Cross offer the NROTC. Some affiliates, such as Boston College and Worcester State University, also house the RN program. Northern/Midwestern/Northwestern Colleges

In addition to Northwestern University (one of the original NROTC campuses), Illinois boasts the University of Illinois, Illinois Institute of Technology and four affiliates. Several campuses offer the RN program. Indiana has Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame, along with its two affiliates that also offer RN. Ohio has Ohio State University (with an RN program) and Miami University. Michigan has one host campus -- the University of Michigan -- and one affiliate, Eastern Michigan University. The University of Nebraska (with an RN program) and Iowa State University are the only campuses in their states that offer the NROTC. The University of Idaho hosts the NROTC in its state, with three affiliates offering the RN program. In addition to one of the original NROTC colleges -- the University of California, Berkeley -- and its three affiliates, California boasts programs at UCLA, USC, and the University of San Diego with its four affiliates.
