The University of Florida's Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps adheres to the traditional training programs offered to students pursuing a career in the United States Naval Service. The University of Florida's NROTC program registers more than 100 midshipmen and officer candidates from the Navy and Marine Corps seeking commission. The U.F. battalion encourages former enlisted military personnel to enroll into college's special enlisted commissioning programs (ECP). Students can choose from a variety of training programs geared towards their specific career paths including ground warfare, aviation, submarine warfare, aircraft carrier and nuclear power, SEAL/Special Operations and infantry officer.
Jacksonville University's NROTC program has commissioned more than 1,250 officers specializing in ground warfare, submarine warfare, aviation, nuclear power and the Marine Corps occupational specialties (MOS). The Jacksonville University NROTC Unit has many college institutions scattered abroad, including Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), University of North Florida (UNF), Florida Community College Jacksonville (FCCJ) and Naval Station Kings Bay located in Georgia. Jacksonville's military infrastructure provides support and services for current active-duty service members.
The University of South Florida's NROTC program develops midshipmen mentally, physically and spiritually to instill the highest principles and ideals of duty and loyalty. The NROTC program aims to indoctrinate the core values of honor, courage and commitment in order to commission college graduates as naval officers. Prospective students who meet the mental and physical challenges may apply and undergo the orientation process for induction into a military lifestyle consisting of classroom instruction, team activities and personal assistance from upper-class midshipmen. College graduates will possess a foundational professional background with enough motivation geared toward successful careers in the United States Navy, including tier degrees for qualifying students.
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University offers a comprehensive NROTC program with two participating local colleges, including Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College. Prospective students must apply and pass a physical requirement test before consideration of commissioning into the NROTC program. The NROTC program instills and strengthens core ideals and principles suitable for future naval officers. College graduates complete the formal academic requirements, including Naval Science coursework, physical, mental and leadership in order to achieve commissioning status into the United States Navy.
