Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research college, also located in Cambridge. It was founded in 1865. MIT's website states that the college's mission is to "advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century." MIT is home to seven schools, offers 10 undergraduate and graduate degrees and enrolled about 12,000 students as of 2010.

Suffolk University is the third-largest university in Boston, with more than 16,000 students as of 2010. In 1906, it was founded as a night school for students interested in law.
