Colleges With a Nutritionist Major

Nutritionists and dietitians are trained in the maintenance of human health through proper nutrition. Dietitians are more likely to be directly involved with patients in a clinical setting, while nutritionists tend to be more involved in research or "big picture" management. There are many schools teaching various aspects of human nutrition, but relatively few offering a general nutritionist major.
  1. University of North Dakota

    • The University of North Dakota's College of Nursing in Grand Forks offers bachelor's degrees in both dietetics and community nutrition. The curriculum for both programs includes communication, psychology, anatomy, statistics, nutrition, and professional development. Community nutrition students also take electives focused on food preparation and food service, or sports nutrition, gerontology and family nutrition. After graduation, those who opted for the community nutrition degree may go on to complete North Dakota's requirements for Licensed Nutritionist certification.

    Messiah College

    • Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, offers three nutrition majors in its department of nutrition and dietetics. The nutrition and dietetics major is for those who wish to practice clinically as nutritionists or dietitians, and lays the groundwork for further study and certification. The nutrition science major is suitable for those who wish to continue into medical school or an advanced degree in nutritional research. The nutrition and food service management major is designed for those who plan to follow a career in institutional or private food service or catering. There is significant overlap among the three, in their core curricula.

    Madonna University
