The University of Pittsburgh department of nutrition is the top rated program in the United States as ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 2010. The school offers a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition. This degree prepares students to educate clients on the importance of a balanced diet, as well as the negative effects of overeating and lack of exercise. Often, graduates find work in nursing homes, private practices and work frequently with athletes. The program is largely based in science and math, and it is recommended that potential students engage is these courses as soon as possible. High school students should take as many as three years of high school math, chemistry and biology to ease the transition from high school to college. Freshman students are also encouraged to join the Student Dietetic Association of the University of Pittsburgh prior to enrollment. This is a student group with chapters nationwide and can lead to job connections and internship opportunities.

The Dietetic Technology program at Loma Linda University provides an education based in problem solving and educating others on the benefits and uses of food. While nutrition studies the science of how the body utilizes food and its nutrients, dietetics teaches the art of food and making eating a pleasurable experience. The Dietetic Technology program provides graduates with an Associate in Science degree in Nutrition. The combined Nutrition and Dietetics program allows for a Bachelor of Science degree. Upon completion of either program, graduates may become employed as entry-level dietetic technicians or choose from an array of other opportunities. On average, more than 80 percent of the Loma Linda Nutrition graduates who test, pass on the first attempt.

Georgia State provides a program in Dietetics, which readies graduates to teach others about the proper use of food. Another goal aims to provide others with education on the effects of overeating, exercise and other aspects of a well balanced lifestyle. Students must complete courses in biology, anatomy, physiology and others, and also must participate in a related internship assignment. Upon completion of the program, students may pursue employment as nutritionists or dietitians in a variety of work environments. On average, about 85 percent of graduates of the Georgia State program pass their first attempt at the board test, and just about 80 percent pass their follow-up exams five years later.
