Commonly referred to as Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi is a public college located 70 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee in the small town of University. Among the baccalaureate programs available to the school's more than 12,700 undergraduate students is a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition. The four-year program features coursework in biochemistry, anatomy and food service system management as well as classes in statistics, psychology and sociology. A one-term internship is required for all graduates. A Master of Science degree in food and nutrition is also offered. Located in Kenmore, Washington, Bastyr University is a private institution that is home to approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university offers a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition with specializations in basic nutrition, nutrition and culinary arts and nutrition and exercise science. Before enrolling in any of the programs, students must first complete two years of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university, taking classes in literature, psychology, mathematics, biology, metabolism, speech and the arts. Those who receive admission to the nutrition program then spend two years completing the major coursework at Bastyr. The university also offers a post-baccalaureate, one-year internship program to prepare students with nutrition degrees to become registered dietitians.
