How to Cite an ICTR Document

The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda is a body created by the United Nations Security Council in 1994 to prosecute persons responsible for the violations of international humanitarian law that occurred in Rwanda during that year. The ICTR publishes its findings and court proceedings as documents. According to the website of the United Nations, documents published by the ICTR have a specific manner in which they should be cited.

      List the title of the document in italics, followed by a comma. For example:

      The Prosecutor v. Ephrem Setako (Judgment and Sentence),

      List the case number, followed by a comma. For example:

      Case No. ICTR-04-81-T,

      List the authoring organization, followed by a comma. That information should appear as follows:

      International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR),

      List the date of publication, followed by a comma. Make sure that the date appears in a day-month-year format. For example:

      25 February 2010,

      List the URL of the page that the document appears on. For example:

      List the date on which you accessed the document online, also in a day-month-year format. This information should appear in brackets. For example:
