How to Cite a Lab Manual

All sources that you glean information from in the course of writing your paper should be listed in a reference list. This includes sources that are used in class, such as a laboratory manual. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) publishes simple guidelines for the proper citation of lab manuals.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your citation with the name of the department for which it was published, followed by a period. For example:

      Department of Physics.

    • 2

List the year and semester in the following format:

      (2003, Spring).

    • 3

List the full title of the manual in italics, followed by a period. For example:

PHY 101 Introduction to Physics laboratory manual.

    • 4

List the city and the institution, separated by a colon. For example:

      Boston: Boston University.

The finished citation should appear as follows:

Department of Physics. (2003, Spring). PHY 101 Introduction to Physics laboratory manual. Boston: Boston University.

Remember to italicize the title of the manual.
