How to Cite a Flier in MLA

Once you get to college, you'll find that the citation of most materials in term papers is relatively straightforward. However, you may find at some point that you need to cite an unpublished document, such as a flier. Luckily, the Modern Language Association (MLA) publishes simple guidelines for the citation of fliers, memos and other unpublished material.

Instructions

    • 1

List the name of the author of the pamphlet in the following format: last name, first name. If the author is an organization, simply list the name of the organization, followed by a period. If no author is listed, skip this step.

    • 2

List the title of the flier in quotation marks, followed by a period.

    • 3

Briefly describe the flier. Follow this information with a period.

    • 4

List the name of the organization associated with the flier, followed by a period. If no organization is associated with the flier, skip this step.

    • 5

List the city and state of production, followed by a period. If this flier does not seem to be associated with a particular location, skip this step.

    • 6

List the date on which the flier was issued or printed, followed by a period. In MLA style, dates should be formatted with the day first, followed by the month and year. The names of months should be abbreviated down to three letters. For example: 13 Apr. 2010. If no date is given, list the date as: n.d.

    • 7

List the medium of publication, followed by a period. If you are citing a flier, this should appear as follows: Print.

    • 8

Ensure that the finished citation appears in the following format: Johnny's House of Pizza. "Two-For-One Pizza Specials." Flier distributed to local college students. Johnny's House of Pizza. Orono, ME. n.d. Print.
