How to Cite a DVD in MLA Format

It is important to correctly cite sources when writing a term paper. However, not all sources are as straightforward and easy to cite as books. For instance, films on DVD that you use as sources of information must be cited in the reference list at the end of your paper. The Modern Language Association, or MLA, sets out clear guidelines for the correct citation of films released on DVD.

List the title of the film in italics, followed by a period.

    • 2

List the name of the director. Preface the director's name with the designation "Dir." and follow the director's name with a period.

      Dir. Bob Smith.
