Schools in Florida That Have Fire Science Degrees

According to the United States Bureau of Labor statistics, employment in firefighting is expected to grow faster than average for all jobs in the next several years. Because firefighter positions are sought after, job applicants are expected to face strong competition. A fire science degree gives an applicant an advantage in the fire service field. There are several schools in Florida that have fire science degree programs.
  1. Central Florida Community College

    • Central Florida Community College offers an associate degree in fire science technology to those already working in the fire service field and wanting to advance. The program, which is 60 credit hours, offers courses that certify graduates as Fire Officer I and II and prepares them for technical and supervisory positions in fire service. Some courses offered include fire prevention practices, private fire protection systems, fire department administration, building construction for the fire service, fire investigations and fire chemistry. The program's core courses are conducted at the Florida State Fire College.

    Edison State College

    • Edison State College offers an associate degree in fire science technology. The program is 60 credit hours and is for students who have completed the Florida firefighting minimum standards training and firefighters who want to advance their career opportunities.     University of Florida

    • The University of Florida offers an online bachelor's of science degree in fire and emergency services. The coursework for this 120-credit-hours program contains training in fire science, emergency medical services and emergency preparedness. Graduates will be trained to manage all aspects of the modern emergency response agency. To register, applicants must have a related associate's degree from an accredited college and appropriate fire and emergency services experience.
