The exam is open to candidates who posses a high school diploma, or an associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, technology or other related fields. Verifiable job-related experience is also required. The years of experience depends on your level of education.
The National Association of Fire Investigations provides certifications for fire and explosion investigator, fire investigation instructor and vehicle fire investigator. A passing score on an exam is required to obtain certification.
