Complete 30 hours of college courses and obtain your grades from each class. The typical college course is 3 credit hours, which means you need to take a minimum of 10 college courses before you qualify for the HOPE Scholarship.
Give each of your letter grades the correct numerical value. To calculate GPA, each letter grade is given a numerical value: A's are worth 4 points, B's are 3 points, C's are 2 points and D's are 1 point. An "F" is a failing grade and therefore does not receive a numerical value.
Add the numbers of each grade together to come up with your total grade value. If you've taken 10 courses to obtain your 30 credit hours and you received 3 A's, 5 B's and 2 C's your numerical grade is 31.
Divide 31 into the number of courses you have taken. For example, you will divide 31 into 10 to come up with a grade point average of 3.22.
