Arizona Education Grants

Paying for a college education may be difficult for many prospective students. The lack of funds should not completely deter individuals from applying to and attending a post-high school educational program. This article includes information on education grants for students who are looking to attend college or other higher education institutions in the state of Arizona. According to the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education, there are several different types of educational grants available to residents who plan to attend post-secondary schools in the state.
  1. Early Graduation for Scholarship Grant (EGSG)

    • The EGSG program is a non-need based grant for students who complete their high school requirements prior to the expected graduation date and who are planning to attend an accredited Arizona college or vocational school on a full-time basis. Students graduating from high school one semester early may be eligible for up to $1,500 per academic year. Those graduating one year early may be eligible for up to $2,000. There is a 12 month minimum Arizona residency requirement for this grant.

Arizona College Access Aid Program (ACAAP)

    • The ACAAP education grant is intended for students who are already enrolled in an Arizona college program and can demonstrate a high degree of financial need. Students must be entering the sophomore, junior, or senior year of post-secondary school at the time of application. There is a $2,000 per academic year maximum award for this grant.

    Post-secondary Education Grant Program (PEG)

    • The PEG grant is awarded to students who plan to earn a post-secondary bachelor's degree at a private Arizona academic institution. This non-need based grant has a maximum award of $2,000 per academic year for up to four years of school. If the student does not graduate from the private post-secondary institution within five years of applying for the grant, he or she must repay the money.

    Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP)

    • LEAP grant money comes from a partnership between the federal and state (Arizona) governments. Need-based grant money is given by the federal government and matched by money from the state. Students receiving LEAP money may attend either a public or private accredited post-secondary institution in Arizona on a part- or full-time basis. Grant awards are generally between $100 and $2,500 total per academic year.

Special Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Program (SLEAP)

    • The SLEAP grant is similar to the LEAP grant, except that students must be enrolled in an academic program that leads to a degree deemed important to the Arizona state workforce. This grant is need-based and has a yearly award maximum of $2,000.

    Other Education Grants in Arizona

    • Non-state funded grants are available through private scholarships and institutions. The Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) provides students living and attending school in Arizona with scholarship or grant money for a post-secondary education. According to ACF information, they awarded over $3.9 million through a number of different private scholarship programs in the year 2006.
