OVAE partners with states, nonprofits, and localities to offer grant assistance for adult education through the Adult Education State Grant Program. The purpose of this program is to assist adults in becoming literate, gaining knowledge for employment, and completing a secondary school education. Individuals who are teenagers to young adults can utilize this funding through GED programs, adult employment training services, and resource development plans.
States are required by the Department of Education to make grant funding available to local agencies and postsecondary institutions for the purpose of implementing tech-prep programs. Some of the requirements for this grant include an agreement that implements partnership between secondary and postsecondary schools in order to develop the curriculum and a joint training between secondary and post secondary educators. This training fosters program uniformity at the high school and college level. Grants to States for Incarcerated Youth Offenders is government funding made available to help incarcerated young adults to obtain functional literacy, life, and job skills through the pursuit of postsecondary education certificates and associates in art degrees. This organization enables states to provide adult education services to inmates up to age 25 through literacy and job training programs during their time of incarceration. This education also continues through prerelease and while on parole. Also, inmates who are candidates for these programs must be set for release or parole from the correctional facility within five years or less.
