TEACH Grant
The TEACH Grant is a federal program that provides up to $4,000 per year to students who agree to teach in public or private elementary and secondary schools which serve low-income families. Students should contact their school's financial aid office for more information.
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based grant with a maximum that varies every year. The grant does not have to be repaid and is awarded based on need, school tuition, and full or part-time status.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
This federal grant is awarded to undergraduate students with extreme financial need. This grant does not have to repaid. As with the Pell Grant, the award amount depends on the student's financial need, as well as the time in which the student applied for financial aid.
Academic Competitiveness Grant
The Academic Competitiveness Grant is awarded in addition to the Pell Grant. Students must have completed a rigorous high school program and maintain a GPA of 3.0 while in college.
The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant)
The SMART Grant is available to third- and fourth-year full-time undergraduate students who qualify for the Pell Grant. The student must also major in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign language which is critical to U.S. national security.
Raise the Nation
Raise the Nation is a non-profit organization that offers a continuing education scholarship to single mothers who are interested in advancing their education and careers and provide better opportunities for their children.
Women's Independence Scholarship Program
This scholarship is granted to women who are direct survivors of partner abuse and are seeking to further their education. Preference goes to single mothers with young children who exhibit great financial need.
Arkansas
Single Parent Scholarships - Arkansas offers single parents living in the state grants to supplemental their educational expenses when they are pursuing educational courses that will improve their earning potential. Students must not already have a degree, with the exception of those pursuing a Masters of Teaching degree. Grants are awarded based on GPA, marital status and financial need.
Florida
George Snow Scholarship Fund -- Eligibility varies for the various scholarships offered through this fund. Applicants should contact the scholarship fund directly for more information.
Illinois
College of DuPage -- Single parents of Illinois living in District 502 qualify for a $1000 grant. Applicants must have dependent children and maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Minnesota
Mary Jane Young Scholarship -- This scholarship is awarded to Minnesota residents over the age of 25 with dependent children who are re-entering college.
