Rotary Club Scholarships for High School Students

Rotary International is a worldwide service organization with a presence in more than 200 countries. There are about 33,000 Rotary clubs, and their goal is to provide service to people throughout the world through community service and advocacy. Rotary is "nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds," according to the club's official website. Rotary Club provides several scholarships to future leaders.   1. Brickell Scholars Program

    • The Virginia Beach Rotary Club funds the Brickell Scholars Program, which awards high school students from the Virginia Beach Public School System. There are four scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000. They are the Mike Katsias Rotary Special Needs Scholarship, worth $500; the Richard J. Schlimgen Memorial Scholarship, worth $1,000; the John J. Kreuger Memorial Scholarship, worth $2,000; and the E.E. Brickell Scholarship, worth $5,000. The latter scholarship is awarded once a year to a student who "demonstrates an excellent grade point average, is enrolled in the most challenging academic courses, displays evidence of scholarly work outside of the regular curriculum, and has achieved the highest scores on standardized testing," according to the club's official website.

    Vacaville Scholarships

    • Vacaville Rotary Club in Vacaville, California, offers several high school scholarships. Some include two Vacaville Rotary Club William J. Carroll Memorial scholarships, worth $1,000 each; two Vacaville Rotary Club Frank Douglas Memorial scholarships, worth $1,500 each; and two President's Scholarship awards worth $3,000. Also, the club provides the Vacaville Rotary Club John Rico Memorial Scholarship, worth $1,500, and awarded to two students who have worked on their high school newspaper staffs for at least two years and plan to study journalism or photojournalism in college.

    Vineland Scholarships

    • The Rotary Club of Vineland, New Jersey offers several high school student scholarships including the Harry Kejzman Memorial Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is offered to high school graduates who are seeking admission into Cumberland County College. The club also offers the Harry D. Doerr Memorial Scholarship, an award of varying amounts to students who are pursuing college or training in non-academic fields. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, reside in Vineland, be high school graduates and must demonstrate financial need, character and academic achievement. The $2,500 John Spoltore/Matt Blatt Most Inspirational Scholarship is awarded to students who have "overcome adversity in life," according to the club's website.

    Madison Rotary Foundation Scholarship Program

    • The Madison Rotary Club in Madison, Wisconsin, offers the Madison Rotary Foundation Scholarship program. Every year, the club awards 21 high school students with four years of guaranteed college funding assistance based on the students' "academic standing, character and leadership abilities, contributions to their schools and communities and financial need," according to the club's website. In 2008, the scholarships were worth more than $216,000.
