If you are adopted and are planning to attend college, there is some good news: There are several scholarships available for students in your situation. The key is to find these grants and apply for them. Remember, even a smaller grant can help you cover the costs of your higher education.
  1. Gordon Evans Scholarship

    • The National Foster Parent Association each year awards the Gordon Evans Scholarship to foster children and the birth or adoptive children of foster parents. This parents must be members of the National Foster Parent Association. The amount awarded varies.

      To qualify for the scholarship, children must be enrolled as undergraduates at an accredited post-secondary institution. These students must include a personal statement about their education goals and career hopes with their application packet.

    Jane Irene Mishica Memorial Scholarship

    • The Jane Irene Mishica Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Humboldt Area Foundation, is awarded to seniors graduating from a high school in Humboldt County, California, who will be attending a post-secondary institution full time. To qualify, students must have been adopted at age 10 or older, and must have a grade point average of at least 2.0.

      The foundation awards two of these scholarships, for a maximum of $500 each, every year. To qualify, students must include a personal statement on their career and education hopes in their application package.

    Ira S. Tate Scholarship

    • The Ira S. Tate Scholarship benefits a specific type of student: Undergraduate students who are residents of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and are attending Southeastern Louisiana University full-time are eligible. Applicants must be adopted children abandoned by their adoptive parents.

      Students who plan to work in teaching, nursing and other helping fields are given preference for this scholarship, which has a maximum value of $1,600.
