The National Environmental Health Association together with the American Academy of Sanitarians provides annual scholarships for students pursuing degrees in the environmental health sciences and public health. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for these awards. The annual deadline for application is February 1. Students must enroll in a program of study accredited by the Environmental Health Accreditation Council for award eligibility. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services makes scholarships available to Native students pursuing public health degrees through the Indian Health Service Health Professions Preparatory Scholarship Program. This program provides money toward tuition for up to two years of full-time study, though students must reapply each year. To be eligible, students must be undergraduates, and must be able to prove that they are of Native American or Native Alaskan ethnicity. Scholarships awards are based on academic record, recommendations, and need. IHS also offers scholarships for graduate students, although these entail a service obligation. The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation has scholarship funds for Hispanic and Latino students through its Public Health Scholarship Program. These scholarships are in the amounts of $2,500 for undergraduate students and $5,000 for graduate students. Students must be of Hispanic or Latino origin, and must also have at least junior undergraduate status. Students with a grade point average of 2.5 or above are eligible.
