Native American Nursing Scholarships

Many scholarships are available to nursing students, but some are specifically set up only for Native Americans. American Indians are underrepresented in the nursing profession, and scholarships are one way to help out passionate and deserving nurses and aspiring nurses. In order to qualify for one of these scholarships, expect to provide legal proof that you belong to a recognized American Indian tribe.
  1. Justine E. Granner Memorial Scholarship

    • The Justine E. Granner Memorial Scholarship funds American Indian nursing students who are attending a college or school of nursing within the state of Iowa. February 1 is the annual deadline to submit scholarship applications. Awards of $1,000 are granted yearly to the successful applicants.

    Daughters of the American Revolution: American Indian Scholarship

    • The national society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) provides a one-time annual $1,000 award for Native Americans. This scholarship is available to students of any age, in any tribe and in any state. The award is based on the applicant's demonstrated academic success and her need for financial assistance. The DAR strictly enforces the requirement of a grade point average of at least 2.75. Nursing students can use their award at any college, university or technical school, toward both undergrad and graduate nursing programs. the annual application deadline is April 1.

    National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations (NCEMNA)

    • The National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations (NCEMNA) offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate nursing students who are members of their associated organizations. These include Asian American/Pacific Islander Nurses Association, Inc. (AAPINA), National Alaska Native American Indian Nurses Association, Inc. (NANAINA), National Association of Hispanic Nurses, Inc. (NAHN), National Black Nurses Association, Inc. (NBNA), and Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc. (PNAA). Annually, ten $500 nursing scholarships are awarded to NANAINA nursing student members that reside in Alaska. Applicants are required to be enrolled as full-time students.

    • The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America have nursing scholarships available for Native Americans. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $1,500, and the number of awards is subject to available funds.
