The Illinois Department of Public Health's Center for Rural Health makes educational grant assistance available to female residents pursuing a health degree through its scholarship programs. Students pursuing a degree as a nurse-midwife, a nurse practitioner or a physician's assistant may be eligible for up to $7,500 of support per academic year under the Allied Health Care Professional Scholarship Program. Nursing students who are Illinois residents may receive annual awards of up to $4,942 toward tuition and $5,943 toward living expenses through the Nursing Education Scholarship Program. Students pursuing a degree as a physician may be eligible for a full-tuition Medical Student Scholarship, which also awards a monthly stipend of $950. All IDPH Center for Rural Health scholarship programs require that a recipient practice in the state of Illinois for a certain amount of time after graduation. The Illinois state government provides scholarship assistance to female students pursuing a career as an educator through the Illinois Future Teacher Corps scholarship program. Illinois Future Teacher Corps scholarships are available in awards that range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year. To be eligible, a student must be a U.S. citizen and resident of Illinois, must demonstrate financial need by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year, and must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.5 while participating in the program. Recipients of this scholarship are required to teach in the state of Illinois for at least five years. Full-tuition scholarships are provided to one of 10 public Illinois universities for one, two or four years. To be eligible, a student must reside in the legislative district of the legislator who is awarding her the scholarship.
