Students interested in post-graduate studies in Humanities can apply for funding through the African Humanities Program (AHP) Fellowship. According to the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), the fellowship is intended to encourage the renewal of the humanities in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa Tanzania, and Uganda. This funding opportunity is only available to students who are currently affiliated with an institution in the aforementioned countries. Applicants must also have nationality or residence in sub-Saharan Africa. ACLS also indicates that projects must be based in sub-Saharan Africa and must be within the Humanities discipline.

Students from developing countries in need of funding for postgraduate studies can apply for the International Scholarship Program from The Aga Khan Foundation. The Aga Khan Development Network says the foundation will primarily fund applicants at the master's level but may also accepted applications for Ph.D. programs. Applications requirements listed by the foundation are excellent academic records, financial need, admission to a postgraduate institution and a career plan. Applications are being accepted within Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, United States and Canada.

Another option for students in search of postgraduate funding is through the Loughborough University in Leicestershire, UK. The university says it will provide funding for postgraduate students who are currently and permanently living in Africa. The scholarship covers 100 percent of the cost of the year's courses at the University. Criteria for this scholarship include excellent academic standing, returning to their home country, plans to make a significant impact on their community and understanding an initiative to cover costs associated with living in the UK during the study period.
