Create each child's name tag. Use sentence strips and write each child's name on one and cut to size. Be sure to write letters neatly and correctly as children will learn how to form their letters from this visual reminder each day. ABC Teach provides desk tags with decorations for the teacher who wants more decorative name tags.
Add a shape sticker to each name tag using different colors. Before children learn to read their name, they will benefit from having this shape clue, such as a blue star or a red heart. Use it wherever a child's name is in the classroom and she will begin to recognize her name.
Laminate the name tag. These pieces of paper go through a lot over the course of a year, so laminating is a good time investment as it will help it to last much longer. If a laminating machine is unavailable, cover the name tag in clear contact paper for a similar result.
Attach self-adhesive hook and loop fastener strips or dots to the back of the name tag and to the desk. This will eliminate the use of frustrating tape, and according to Education World, it gives the added benefit of being able to move name tags. When students need to be separated, teachers can easily switch name tags and solve the problem.
