How Do I Teach Preschool Tumbling?

It's common for parents to put their children into different extracurricular activities when they begin preschool. Tumbling is an extracurricular activity that helps build strength, improves balance and increases reaction time. It's a great class to teach if you like kids and can appreciate what tumbling can do for them. There are some things you need to do before you jump right in. A little research and some patience will pay off in the long run.

Instructions

    • 1

Earn a gymnastics coaching certificate. Check with the Red Cross or a local college for classes and training that may be offered in your area. You will have to attend training classes for a period of time before obtaining your certificate.

    • 2

Apply to a tumbling and gymnastics center as a coach. Many preschools may also have extracurricular activities, such as tumbling, where you can find work.

    • 3

Visit some preschool tumbling classes and observe how the teachers teach the students. Take notes and ask questions to learn more.

    • 4

Ask other teachers about songs they sing or games they play. Remember that preschool students have a short attention span. Learning rules is easier for children if its done by singing songs that encourage positive behavior and good listening skills.

    • 5

Learn how to divide your time into different sections. Preschool kids will get bored doing the same thing for 45 minutes. Change up the routine by including forward rolls, backward rolls and rhythm and dance moves with music and games.
