How to Turn a Ratio Into a Percent

A ratio is two numbers divided by one another, for example 3/4 or 12/5 are ratios. A percent is a number divided by 100; per cent means per hundred. Both are ways of comparing two numbers, so one can be converted to the other.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide the top number in the ratio by the bottom. For example, if the ratio is 5/3 then divide 5 by 3 and get 1.6667.

    • 2

Multiply the result by 100. In the example, 1.6667*100 = 166.67.

    • 3

Add a percent sign (%). This is the answer. In the example 5/3 = 166.67%.
