How to Select a Charter School in Pennsylvania

You want to improve your child's education. Taking the step from the traditional public school district into a nontraditional setting can be scary, for both you and your student. But selecting the right charter school can make a positive difference in your child's education. Here's how to select the school that's right for you and your child.

Instructions

    • 1

Find out what's available. There are more than 110 charter schools in Pennsylvania, so you are sure to find one that is right for you. Some even specialize in the arts and other specific gifted development of your student.

    • 2

Decide between a brick-and-mortar charter school and a cyber charter school. There is a difference in who approves these schools. The local school district approves the brick-and-mortar schools, while the Pennsylvania Department of Education approves the cyber charter schools.

Do some research. Find out the charter school's academic progress and graduation rate. Make sure the teachers are certified, and ask if the teachers like their job. If they are ecstatic about their job, as they often are, you have struck gold.
