Kindergarten is offered at 40 of Philadelphia's 76 charter schools. Three of these schools, Russel Byers Charter School, Philadelphia Montessori Charter School and Belmont Academy Charter School offer pre-K programs as well. Two more schools, Alliance for Progress Charter and Laboratory Charter School, specialize in early education and only offer kindergarten and grade 1.
Alliance for Progress Charter School operates a second location, which covers grades 2 through 5. Laboratory Charter School also has a second location for students in grades 2 through 7. 38 other Philadelphia charter schools offer some combination elementary grades 1 through 8. Ad Prima School educates children up to grade 6; Belmont Academy, Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School and Tacony Academy Charter School offer up to fourth grade; Christopher Columbus, Eugenio Maria De Hostos, Franklin Towne Elementary, Planet Abacus Charter School, Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School and West Philadelphia Achievement Center end at fifth grade. KIPP West Philadelphia Charter Preparatory School teaches exclusively fifth-grade students, and an additional 23 schools offer grades K through 8.
In addition to the 23 schools teaching kindergarten through eighth grade, Philadelphia has 16 charter schools covering the middle school years, including the second location of Christopher Columbus Charter, which offers grades 5 through 8. Eastern University Academy Charter School offers grades 7 through 12 while Hardy Williams Charter School begins in kindergarten and ends with grade 9, the first year of high school. KIPP Philadelphia Charter School (independent of its Preparatory location) offers grades 5 through 8, while the remaining twelve schools offer a combination of middle school and early high school grades, with four schools continuing all the way to grade 12.
Twenty-seven of Philadelphia's charter schools offer high school, including YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, which only offers grade 12 education, and Arise Academy High Charter School, a high school catering specifically to youth in foster care. Thirteen charter schools include exclusively grades 9 to 12 and four schools (Community Academy of Philadelphia, grades K-12; Mathematics, Sciences & Tech Charter School, K-12; Mathematics, Civics & Sciences Charter School, 1-12; and Sankofa Freedom Academy, K-12) offer classes for students' full public education career.
