How to Find African American Charter Schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Philadelphia has 67 charter schools, many of which have student populations that are predominantly African American. In fact, a 2008 study prepared for the School District of Philadelphia by the Rand Corporation shows that in the 2006-07 school year, 65 percent of students enrolled in district charter schools were African American.

      Consult the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC) website at www.gpuac.org/programs/programs_ed_1.html for a downloadable directory of the city's 67 charter schools and 11 cyber charter schools.

      Request a free copy of the GPUAC directory by mail by calling Mary-Anne Smith Harris at 215-851-1794 or by email at [email protected]. Be sure to provide your name and mailing address.
