This high school is located in Fairfax County. It offers flexible scheduling for teen and adult learners returning to school after an absence who wish to receive their high school diplomas; classes are available between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. every weekday. The school maintains small class sizes so that teachers are able to regularly work one-on-one with students and to make individualized adjustments to the curriculum for each learner. In addition to the core subjects of English, math, science and social studies, Mountain View offers several elective options to their students, including art, business and physical education. It also offers an elective called "Education for Employment," which allows students to receive job-related training in school and educational credit for work experience in the community. In 2010, Mountain View Alternative High School was awarded an AOL Foundation Award.

This school, located in Newport News, aims to educate students who have had disciplinary issues in traditional schools or who have returned to school from a juvenile detention setting. It has a business-oriented approach to education and hopes to prepare students "to become contributing members of society and lifelong learners." The school offers traditional classes using a block schedule format. Within this format, students take fewer courses throughout a school day but for longer periods of time; a traditional block is 1 1/2 hours. This schedule enables students and teachers to explore topics without rushing and provides time for students to apply newly acquired knowledge through in-class practice. Enterprise strives to get students involved in hands-on projects to enhance learning, and emphasizes computer skills. Students wishing to attend Enterprise Academy must interview for admission, sign a behavior contract and adhere to a strict dress code.
