Measure out your space using the construction and/or copier paper as reference. Most likely, you will be able to fit two to three pieces of paper in each of the three sections of your trifold board. This will help you to select what and how much information to include. Remember to mark out room for added photos, drawings and a title.
Make a title for your trifold project. Write the title in bold letters at the top center of the middle panel with markers or trace and cut out stenciled words. If you choose stenciled letters, attach the letters to the board with a glue stick.
Type any written text that you need to include on your computer. Make sure to use a large enough font for the viewer to see. Typically any font above 20 will be large enough. Use a simple style such as Times New Roman or Arial in bold. For example, if you are creating a science project display you may need a research background paper, abstract, purpose, hypothesis, supply list and process steps. Other projects such as a history or social studies report may require a typed time-line or biographies. Print your pages on your computer's printer.
Create applicable charts and graphs. Either draw them onto construction paper with a ruler and marker or make them on your computer. Most word processing programs have a chart, table or graphing feature that allows you to design your own bar, pie or line graphs.
Collect photos or make drawings for your project. These may be pictures of a science project during the actual experiment, illustrations of scientific process such as the water cycle or plant life cycle, portraits of famous historical figures or any other applicable visual.
Organize your layout. Make the project board easily readable. Choose to design a chronological or experimental time-ordered approach and start with the beginning of your project on the far left panel. This may include a research abstract, background or introduction to the left, data collection in the center and conclusions on the right. Another option is to highlight the most important parts such as the conclusions or results in the center panel.
Mount your printed out papers on colorful construction paper. Use one colored monochromatic theme or coordinating hues. Glue the copier paper to the construction paper with a glue stick. Lay the trifold board flat on your work surface. Use the school glue to attach each mounted paper to the display.
Add photos and drawings with the school glue. Place these in between or artistically overlap the edges of the printed papers.
