How to Calculate Decimals With Exponents Online

A number that contains a decimal expresses a fractional amount of a whole number. For instance, 0.3 expresses 3/10 of one whole unit. An exponent is a number that raises another number (known as a "base") to a certain power. This means that you multiply the base a specific number of times in a row. For example, 3^3 would equal 3 times 3 times 3, or 27. One way to raise decimals to various powers is to use an online exponent calculator.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to a website that features an online exponent calculator. There are multiple websites that offer this type of tool for free. Once you enter the data from your specific math problem, the calculator will perform the mathematical operation.

    • 2

Type in the decimal in the box for the base on the left side of the calculator. For example, you might type in 0.53.

    • 3

Enter the exponent in the exponent box on the right side of the calculator. You might enter 3, for instance.

    • 4

Click "Calculate" or "Enter" to view your answer. In this example, 0.53 raised to the third power equals 0.148877. The process behind calculating this answer is one in which the online calculator multiplies the decimal value a specific number of times, as indicated by the exponent. In this example, the calculator would multiply 0.53 times 0.53 times 0.53 to get the answer 0.148877.
