How to Make an Origami of a Square

This article is an introduction to origami of geometric figures. After this post, a series of paper folding activities that can be used as instructional materials in teaching geometry for elementary, middle school and high school students.

The foundation of any origami (paper folding) activities is a square. No matter what kind of object/s you are going to fold, it will always start from a square.

To perfectly make an origami of a square from any rectangular paper, follow the simple directions below.

Instructions

    • 1

      Hold the paper (rectangular shape). Observe the four corners. Take note of the characteristics of a rectangle : four sides, four right angles and opposite sides are equal.

      Grab any corner of the paper and put it inline to the opposite corner forming 90 degrees angle.

      Make a crease.

    • 4

      Cut the side outside the line.

    • 5

      Open the paper. It is a square whose crease is the diagonal.
