Summer Camps for Puppies & Kids

Summer camp can be an excellent place for kids and puppies to bond. The process helps children develop compassion and understanding of animals, as well as learn the basics of canine training. Several specialized camps foster interaction between kids and dogs. Their activities often differ according to the mission of the sponsoring organization.
  1. Shadow Hill Summer Camp

    • Shadow Hill helps kids develop the necessary skills for grooming their pets for dog shows. With more than 35 years of experience, counselor Jane Hammett instructs kids on the age-old man-dog relationship. Activities include junior handling, agility, herding, conformation, sportsmanship and camping. The camp is held in June in three one-week sessions. The facilities include a 134-acre farm and kennel in North Carolina with plenty of wooded lands for play and exercise by puppies and dogs. None of the dogs live in closed kennels and all are provided with adequate exercise for optimal health and show performance.

    Camp Border Collie For Kids

    • Situated in New York State, Glen Highland Farm is a non-profit with a 175-acre nature sanctuary that provides a loving home to Border collies that have been rescued from cruel and inhumane situations. As part of its mission, the farm also runs a camp in which children take care of these neglected animals. Through this unique program, children from the inner city are paired with the Border collies in an integrated work, study and play program that teach them positive and humane methods of basic animal care and training. These humane interactions help children learn methods to build positive relationships with others, build communication skills, and develop a new understanding and respect for their environment.

Dogs Days in the Desert Summer Camp
