Summer Music Camps for Teenagers

Providing a summer camp curriculum of music theory and performance instruction gives teenagers who are considering a career in music an opportunity to advance their skills. Offered across the United States, these camps allow teens to meet and learn from professional musicians and at the same time enjoy the traditional aspects of summer camp, while making new friends.
  1. Eastman School of Music

    • There are several music programs offered through the Eastman School of Music. The three-week programs instruct campers in both theory and performance techniques. Campers receive two private lessons each week, which range in cost depending upon whether you are attending on a daily basis or staying over a period of time. In addition to theory and performance instruction students participate in "career seminars" where they are given career guidance and have the opportunity to learn from guest speakers who are professional musicians.

    Juilliard Summer Music Camps

    • The Juilliard School of Music summer camp is a way to extend the best education in music during school break. The school offers three different camps for teenagers including "Juilliard String Quartet Seminar," "Summer Jazz Workshops" and "Summer Percussion Seminar." At these camps students get a mix of theory and performance instruction. Costs vary by program and whether you are attending as a day camper or require lodging at the camp. Students are given an opportunity to benefit from an "intense and focused environment" where students have an opportunity for increased interaction with faculty.

    UTA Concert Band Camp

    • The University of Texas has a summer camp for students in grades seven to 12. The camp offers instrument-specific instruction and the classes are taught by instructors from across the state. Students audition on the first day of the camp and are assigned to one of five different bands based on their audition performance. In addition to music, campers enjoy all the same "fun, and excitement of summer camp life," according to the UTA website.

    Stephen Collins Foster Music Camps

    • The Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp provides one and two-week music sessions for students who are in middle and high school and have shown an interest in pursuing music in their studies. The camps include instruction in instruments including piano, percussion and guitar. Camps are also available for voice performance. As the second longest running music camp in the United States, campers develop friendships with other campers and faculty and at the same time can receive the guidance needed to prepare for post secondary studies and a career in music.
