Classroom Valentine Crafts

Valentine's Day is usually celebrated in schools. Students give Valentine cards to each other, and there is often a party near the end of the school day. Teachers can incorporate Valentine's Day activities into their art program. These particular Valentine's Day activities are designed with elementary classrooms in mind. They are simple enough to be manageable for an entire classroom.
  1. Valentine's Day Snow Globes

    • A Valentine's Day snow globe makes a good gift for a child to give his parent. For this project, you will need a clean baby food jar for each child, white glue that dries clear, red glitter and an assortment of heart-shaped sequins, small heart-shaped beads, as well as heart-shaped and other trinkets. After you have assembled the materials, have the children glue sequins, beads and trinkets around the jars. Allow these to dry, then fill the jars with water. Add a spoonful of red glitter to each jar. Glue the lid shut. The lid of the jar becomes the base of the snow globe.

    Valentine's Candle Holders

    • This craft project requires a four-inch terra-cotta plant pot for each pupil, red and pink acrylic paint, sponges cut into heart shapes, glitter, sand and a candle for each pot. The children should sponge paint pink and red hearts all over the pots. Sprinkle glitter on the hearts before the paint dries. After the hearts have dried, fill the pots with sand and then stick a candle into the sand. The candle holders are perfect gifts for the children to give to their parents.

    Heart-Shaped Marble Painting

    • For this activity, you will need a heart-shaped box, about three marbles, red and pink acrylic paint and paper for each student. You first cut the paper into a heart shape to fit into the bottom of the box. Do this by tracing around the box and cutting the paper just inside the lines. Dip the marbles into the red and pink paint, drop them into the box and roll them around until they have created a heart-shaped work of art. You can experiment with this by using different sizes as well as various numbers of marbles. You can also sprinkle glitter onto the paint before it dries.

    Valentine's Kisses

    • This activity requires a baby food jar for each child, red ribbons, chocolate kisses, white glue that dries clear, red glitter and paper hearts that have been cut out by the students. The children should paint the jars with glue and then sprinkle them with glitter. They also should glue a paper heart onto the lids of the jars. After the glue has dried, they fill the jars with chocolate kisses. Tie a red ribbon around each jar and attach a paper heart with a hole punched in it for a tag that says "Love and kisses on Valentine's Day!"
