Hanging Valentine Crafts for Kindergarten

Valentine's Day is a fun-filled holiday for children, as it's a day specially reserved for sharing love and like all holidays provides a break from normal day-to-day activities. If you're a kindergarten teacher, enlist the help of your students to turn your classroom into a love-filled environment by having them create Valentine-themed crafts that can be hung around the room.
  1. Dangling Hearts

    • This craft project is easy to make and the end result will add a touch of whimsy to your classroom. Provide children with red, white and pink construction paper and different sized heart-shaped stencils. Instruct them to trace the stencils onto the construction paper and then cut out the shapes. Once the shapes are cut out, have them spread glue over the top of them and sprinkle red, silver, pink or iridescent glitter on them. When the glue dries, punch holes in the top and bottom of each of the hearts. String filament through the holes of the hearts to connect them and hang the decorations from the ceiling.

    "I Love You" Signs

    • Spread the message of love with these hanging Valentine crafts. Provide your students with eight hearts in different colors. On each heart, instruct them to write out one letter from the phrase, "I love you." Punch a hole in the left and right side of each heart, cut pieces of yarn and string them through the holes that have been punched through the hearts so that they spell out the phrase when hung up. Hang the crafts anywhere you'd like in your classroom.

    Love Bugs

    • Turn paper plates into hanging love bug decorations. Have your students cut out two large hearts and one medium-sized heart from pink or red construction paper. Instruct them to glue the two large hearts to either side of a paper plate so that the points are facing the center of the plate and the humps are hanging over the edges, creating wings. Have them glue the medium-sized heart to the center of the plate so that the humps are facing up. Provide them with eyes to glue to each hump on the heart in the middle of the plate. Have them glue three black pipe cleaners to either side of the bottom of the paper plate, creating legs for their bugs. Have them further embellish their bugs with markers and heart-shaped stickers. Punch a hole in the top of the plates, string yarn through the holes and hang the decorations around the room.

    Heart Wreaths

    • Create heart wreaths from paper plates and pink, red, white and purple construction paper. Have them trace a heart-shaped template onto the construction paper and cut out the hearts --- encourage them to decorate the hearts with markers or to write messages on them. Cut the center out of the paper plates and have your students glue the hearts around the rims of the plates. Loop a piece of ribbon through the hole in the center of the paper plate and use the ribbon to display the wreaths.
