Elementary Student Council Valentine Ideas

Valentine's Day opens up many opportunities for elementary school student councils to do fund-raising and to show appreciation to teachers. Most important, whatever the student council chooses will be accomplished with the help of their adult adviser. Students will enjoy having personal Valentines delivered to them in class. Teachers will enjoy messages of appreciation, and families will enjoy a fun family dance.
  1. Candy-Grams

    • Valentine's Day will be just a little sweeter with candy-gram delivery. As a simple fund-raiser for an elementary school student council, students set up a table in the cafeteria at least a week before Valentine's Day to sell candy-grams for a minimal amount. The student council will buy candy in bulk; lollipops are particularly inexpensive. Have an adult adviser help the student council design 4 1/4-inch by 5 1/2-inch cards with cute Valentine's messages. Copy these on card stock. When students purchase the cards, they will write their own personal message and designate delivery to a specific person. Candy will then be attached to the card. On Valentine's Day, the student council and adult helpers will personally deliver the Valentines. Send a note out to parents to allow them the opportunity to purchase a special Valentine for their children.

    Flowers

    • A fun and popular fund-raiser on Valentine's Day for the student council is to sell flowers. Roses and carnations work very well. Contact a local florist to get help with purchasing flowers. Most local florists will work with school organizations to sell flowers to them at a minimal cost or at cost. Determine how much the flowers need to be marked up to make a profit for the student council, and then set up a table before school and during lunch to sell flowers. Have small cards available for students to write a personal message to the person for whom them are purchasing the flower. Hole-punch the card and tie them onto the flowers on the day of delivery. On Valentine's Day, the flowers will be delivered around the school to the recipients.

Heart Attack in the Teacher's Study

    • A great way for the student council to show the teachers their appreciation is to make hundreds of paper hearts and pass them out to all of the student in the school. Ask students to write personal messages to the teachers to let them know how much they are appreciated. On Valentine's Day, the student council will hang the hearts all over the teacher's study. The teachers will enjoy reading all of the notes, and, for a special touch, set out bowls of Hershey's Hugs and Kisses for teachers to enjoy during lunch or planning periods.

    Valentine's Family Dance

    • A great way for young children to enjoy Valentine's Day with their families is by the student council hosting a Valentine's Day Family Dance. Invite families to come up to the school; as a fund-raiser, sell pizza by the slice or whole, taking pre-orders before the event. Get a parent to volunteer to DJ, and solicit help with lighting effects. Allow everyone to socialize and to dance and enjoy the evening in a safe, comfortable family setting.
