How to Set up an Instant Classroom

Whether you are a parent who home-schools her children, or a tutor looking for a quick way to offer a comfortable learning environment, there are a few steps you can take in order to set up an instant classroom, whether you are teaching out of your own home or in a public area.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a quiet area. You want to teach in an area free from distractions. These distractions may include the television, telephone, computer or loud noises. For instance, if you want to set up an instant classroom in your home, consider using the dining room table, a study or your basement. Avoid distracting places such as bedrooms, where most kids become easily preoccupied with toys, falling asleep in bed or playing games on the computer.

    • 2

Provide a comfortable learning environment. Be sure the students you are teaching feel at ease and are able to focus their attention on what they are learning rather than outside noise. For example, avoid setting up a classroom near public areas where construction may be taking place, loud music is playing or conversations are occurring. Consider using a public library. Many libraries contain private rooms for meetings or tutoring.

    • 3

Supply necessary learning tools. Be sure students are supplied with enough paper for taking notes, pencils and a clear curriculum. If you are setting up a classroom in a public area such as the library, find a room equipped with an overhead projector, chalkboard or white board. If you are creating a classroom inside your home, consider purchasing a white board to hang on the wall of your study area. Many students tend to be visual learners, and having a white board or chalkboard will be a visual aid.
