How to Set up a Math Classroom

Setting up your math classroom is an important way of creating an ideal learning environment for your students. Students traditionally find math class to be difficult, so a more inviting and colorful math classroom appearance will serve to relieve the students' anxiety and help facilitate an eagerness in them to perform well. A well set-up math classroom should be cheery and inspiring, full of well-illustrated mathematical symbols, concepts and formulas to serve as references for the students.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the bulletin boards. Cover the bulletin boards with paper of different colors. You can buy borders with math themes displaying formulas and mathematical symbols.

    • 2

Design the bulletin board displays. Be creative. For an algebra classroom, you might decorate the board with algebraic properties and formulas. For geometry, decorate the board with geometrical figures such as triangles, trapezoids and rhombuses. Leave some space on the bulletin board for things like announcements and assignments.

    • 3

Adorn the walls with math posters and inspirational posters. The students can use these as points of reference. You can change the posters out according to the current curriculum.

    • 4

Set up a display with examples of the use of math in various careers. This display, with newspaper and magazine articles related to mathematics in the workplace, will illustrate to students that they will one day need to employ the concepts they are learning in math class.
