Make your teaching materials the way you make overhead presentations: simple and visually compelling. Use a big type size. Use big and interesting images. Use headlines. Use contrasting colors like dark print on a light background. Limit each page to one concept.
Make your educational materials fun. Use games. Use word search, puzzles, logic games, mysteries, matching and mazes. Use humor if you can.
Make your materials easy to understand, easy to navigate and with a minimum learning curve. For example, if your material is a game, make sure students understand the rules intuitively.
Make your materials interactive and meaningful. Link your activity to the rest of the lesson and let students try different approaches. Each activity should have a purpose and should not stand alone by itself with no connection to what precedes and what follows. Create a story, a plot.
