Write news articles to include in the newspaper. Journalistic stories are timely and give information in a straightforward way. Write your stories on a word processor and format them into columns. Print out each story and set aside.
Make up ads for your newspaper. The ads need to be the same width as the newspaper articles. For a classroom newspaper, your ads may be for upcoming events or announcements for student achievements. Ads break up the newspaper stories and make the publication look more authentic.
Design a masthead for your newspaper and write headlines for each story. The headlines should be two or three font sizes larger than the font the stories are written in and short enough to fit in two lines. Give your newspaper a catchy name and write it in a large font with the date underneath and aligned left under it. Print out your headlines and masthead.
Cut out each story, separating the columns and trimming the excess paper. Keep the story parts and the titles together. Cut out the ads as well.
Set a piece of printer paper on your work surface. Set the masthead at the top of the page and start laying out the stories with the title first followed by the columns of writing. Add in the advertisements and arrange the first page of the paper until you are happy with its design. Use a glue stick to secure the cutouts to the paper.
Turn the first page over and continue to lay out the newspaper. This is page two. Depending on how long your newspaper will be, keep laying out stories until both sides of each sheet are filled. For the best-looking design, your newspaper should take up both sides of each sheet.
Take your laid-out newspaper to a printer and have it printed double-sided. Collate the pages and staple the upper left hand corner.
