Review potential cafe game pieces. Visit toy stores that carry extensive lines of toy furniture and toy utensils such as toy cups, toy tea pots and toy cash registers. Make a list of the game pieces you would like most in your game. Also, look at dolls that could be used as waitresses and customers in your game. Make a list of the dolls that you may want to include in your game.
Examine the different game boards used in popular cafe games. Make a sketch of a game board based on the boards you reviewed and other ideas you or your game development partners might have.
Examine different fabric patterns at sewing stores. Give each fabric pattern a rating. Rate the fabric pattern on the interest you have in using the pattern as part of your game board. Look at checkerboard fabric patterns and rate these for use in your cafe game.
Make a list of the game pieces that your want to use in your cafe game. Include in the list the main characters (dolls) you want in the game, the main props (furnishings) and the primary game control pieces you want to include. Game control pieces would include dice, a spinning wheel, cards you turn over or any number of electronic gadgets that dictate how a player must move a game piece, how much money or how many points a player wins or loses.
Make a list of the different goals that popular cafe games have. Write down on this list any goal ideas you might have on the same list. Construct a list of rules you want in your game. Again, obtain ideas from other games and adapt them to your likes and dislikes.
Lay out the fabric you have chosen to develop the game on a table. Sketch out the game board design on the fabric. Place the game control pieces, the game icons and the game characters and furnishings according to a specified game layout.
Play the game to test it. Play the game with different groups of people to see how different age groups and types of people like it. Adopt modifications that the test groups suggest. Test the game until the game is developed such that almost anyone who plays will like it and there are no obvious flaws in the games rules or design.
