The Spa Training Academy offers a 350-hour program for nail technology. During the program, students learn basic skills such as manicures, pedicures, nail art, wraps, fill-ins and polishing. Courses are conducted within a classroom and lab. Courses are divided into categories: basic skills, related concepts, practice and procedure and business practice. OHSA Standards, Building Clientele and Preparing for the Licensing Examination are a few of the business courses necessary to become a successful nail technician.
Students earn certifications through the full-time or part-time program at the ABC School of Technology. Located in northern Illinois, ABC School offers a program for high school students. The high school student can take the certification test soon after receiving a high school diploma. The nail instructor program is 650 credit hours. Nail technicians with at least two years in a salon qualify for the 500 credit hour program.
Roza's School of Nail Technology is located in Lincolnwood, near Chicago. A course usually lasts for three to four months. The student can take classes at her own pace. There is no additional cost if the student extends her studies past four months. Some courses involve nail care for nail diseases, business management and acrylic application. Roza's maintains a list of employers and provides lifetime employment assistant for former students.
Mr. John's has both nail certification training and nail instructor training. The nail tech training program is 400 credit hours with a 35-hour internship program. Nail technology instructors complete 625 training hours. The VoTech program is for high school students, as early as the junior year, to begin the program at Mr. John's. The student should contact the school guidance counselor or school director at Mr. John's school.
