Online Nail Schools

If you can imagine yourself transforming battered nails and split cuticles into nails fit to grace a magazine cover, consider becoming a nail technician. Most states stipulate that students complete a certain amount of hours attending a beauty school to receive a license. Once you complete required training, enroll in an online nail school to improve your techniques, refresh your training or fulfill requirements for continuing education.
  1. The Academy of Online Nail Design

    • The Academy of Online Nail Design divides their online school for nail technicians into four components on DVD. You begin training with the first component, learning the role of a nail professional as well as anatomy, diseases and disorders of the skin and salon safety. During the following components, you learn basic manicure and pedicure services and then move onto learning artificial nail enhancements. After each component, you complete practice sheets and take online test.

The necessary products come included with the program, but you need to purchase towels, paper towels, a bowl for manicures, a pedicure tube, additional nail tips, files and buffers.

The academy makes additional supplies available for purchase on their website. As of 2010, the cost of the school is $995, which you can divide into four payments to be paid before beginning each module. The Academy of Online Nail Design designed their program to last four months.

    Universal Class

    • Universal Class offers courses for nail technicians to refresh or master skills and know that they have already earned. The school gives its opinion of the best products on the market and shares techniques that other nail technicians find helpful in expanding clientele and promoting services. Universal Class recommends their schooling to licensed nail technicians desiring to upgrade their skills. An instructor monitors you through training. Mastery of artificial nail applications, including gel and fiberglass nail application, helps you hone your skills.

The program, which cost $100, culminates in a "Master Nail Technician" certificate. For $25 more, you receive .8 continuing education units. Universal Class allows you six months to finish the class.

    Mirage Spa

    • Mirage Spa education offers a class that promises to make you a fully qualified nail technician in 200 hours. In addition to learning the structure, diseases and disorders of the nail, you learn how to use an electric nail file in your services. The training features five modules culminating in education in nail art. At the end of each module, you mail finished nail tips into the school's Canadian office for evaluation and grading. The school returns the nail tips with grades and notes on how you can improve in your technique. At the end of the program, you will have completed 38 sets of nails and 20 exams.

The program costs $3,039 for all five modules; you can divide payments into five installments of $608.00.
