The JZ Trend Academy in Bismarck is a Paul Mitchell partner school and features a three-phase cosmetology program, as well as nail and skin programs. The cosmetology program phases cover guest relations; retail, time management and communication; and advanced hairdressing and chemical work. The school's nail academy focuses on the skills, science and creativity needed for successful work in the nail industry. The skin academy incorporates the state-required program for a career as a licensed skin therapist. The school prepares students to take the state board exam for a license in cosmetology.

All cosmetology programs include basic classroom training and hands-on activities in the classroom. Students work on clients under the supervision of a licensed instructor. Cosmetology courses include permanent waves, hair cutting and styling, and facials and makeup. Client services include hair cutting, styling and color, perms, ethnic hair treatments, eyebrow shaping, and hair and scalp treatments. Once all selected program hours are complete, students are ready to take the state board exam to receive their cosmetology licenses.
