COBA Academy

• Featuring an "above and beyond" program that instructs incoming students on both the fundamental and advanced skills needed for hair-cutting design and skin care treatments, the COBA Academy is located in the Southern California city of Orange. This cosmetology program instructs students on nail art design techniques, how to correctly braid a client's hair, ear-piercing techniques and how to develop interpersonal skills with a client. COBA Academy also offers students hands-on training with clients under the direct supervision of the class instructor. After the student completes the first half of the cosmetology program successfully, he can join other students on the beauty salon floor where he will cut hair and perform pedicures with the instruction staff.

Santa Monica College

• First opened to the public in 1929 and offering more than 90 programs in fields of study such as computer sciences and business administration, Santa Monica College is situated in Southern California. This school features a cosmetology department that instructs students on hair coloring and bleaching techniques, proper ways to perform a permanent wave on a variety of hair styles and how to perform both manicures and pedicures. When a student enrolls in Santa Monica College's cosmetology program full-time, she will be able to complete the state-required 1600-hour minimum in order to take the California State Cosmetology License Examination in a little over a year's time. Students can also sign up for the skin care course in which they will learn specific skills relating to both chemical and manual facials.

Lu Ross Academy

• Located in the Southern California community of Ventura, Lu Ross Academy was founded in 1954 and features a wide variety of cosmetology classes in which students can learn the skills needed to excel at this profession. The main cosmetology program contains classes on nail repair, complete pedicure and manicure procedures, eyebrow hair removal techniques, scalp and hair treatments, chemical straightening skills and wet hair styling techniques. Students are instructed on disinfection and sanitation techniques before and after performing hair coloring on a client as well as on thermal hair styling and permanent waving skills.
