The Knowledge Exchange Institute is a study and Internet abroad program founded in 1997 and located in Russia and Tanzania (East Africa). The program features a study-abroad animal and wildlife program. Those interested in animal science or becoming a veterinarian would find programs in pathology, veterinary management and medicine, wildlife species, parasitology, wildlife species and breeding subjects. Students will partake in courses, community service and internships in any of the subjects listed. Students will receive a host family for the year and experience an on-site orientation, telephone, meal plan and exposure to life and customs in either Russia or Tanzania. There is no experience required to apply.
Studying abroad with the Institute for Sustainable International Studies (ISIS) for Animal Sciences will provide you a four-week opportunity to learn about the animals, medicine, zoology, conversation and biology in Belize. The course takes students through breeding programs, rehab and explains the health issues of the animals in their care. There are both in-class and hands-on experiences to be had within ISIS, where students will work in a lab and help with data collection and research. Students will also have the chance to experience the culture of Belize because of the flexibility offered in the program. The International Internship for Veterinary Science and Zoology is a program in Costa Rica. The program offers housing, meals, laundry, orientation and is available in both the Spanish and English language. Language classes are also available. There are several different Costa Rica locations for the studies such as Heredia and Guanacaste. The program will include preparing food for the animals, cleaning enclosures, working at a no-kill animal shelter, rehabilitating animals, assisting the veterinary on duty and much more. Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply with no experience required.
Australia has a wide variety of animals not found in the United States, making it a perfect destination for those who want to study animal science. The North Carolina State University Queensland offers both a full animal science course for either three years or a four-week, five-credit summer course. Students will be able to study Australian wildlife, agriculture and vegetation. Learn about animal biology and newly discovered information as well as environmental and humane uses of animals as both food and companions.
