The Oliver Finley Academy of Cosmetology prides itself on a creative, unique curriculum design. It offers accredited programs in cosmetology and esthetics. The Cosmetology Program, the art and science of beauty care including hair, scalp and nails, is 2,000 credit hours. The curriculum includes skin and hair care, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and salon management; Makeup Artistry (for students in cosmetology and esthetics courses) is 130 credit hours and provides students interested in this part of the business with more in-depth training. Esthetics--preventative skin care and treatments--is 600 credit hours. A Cosmetology Instructor course for licensed stylists who want to obtain their instructor's license is also offered. Originally established in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1982, the Headmasters School of Hair Design claims to have the largest enrollment in Northern Idaho and is one of the fastest growing schools in Boise. It is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences, and approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Idaho's State Board of Cosmetology requires 2,000 clock hours of education. The Cosmetology curriculum provides students with a simulated salon experience, enabling them to develop the full spectrum of skills required for the job. The school's curriculum includes hair design, chemical processing, skin and nail care, all phases of professional imaging, multi-cultural practices, product knowledge, business practices and other topics. Total cost for the 2,000-hour program is $14,214 (as of 2010) and includes tuition, books, registration fee and kit. This means qualifying students can receive financial aid.
