How to Take Flying Lessons in Dayton, Ohio

The Dayton, Ohio area is home to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the United States Air Force Museum. It is also home to an international airport and the National Aviation Hall of Fame. There are a number of places where you can take flying lessons.

      Decide what kind of flying lessons you want. Do you want a one-time lesson to see what it's like or do you want to get your private's pilot license? Or do you want to try a simulation on the ground?

      Arrange your finances. If you are hoping to get your private pilot's license, you will need between $5000 and $9000 to cover both ground school and flight school and solo time. A one hour lesson will cost between $120-$150, depending on where you go in the area. Flight simulator training on the ground will cost $75 and a copy of Microsoft's Flight Simulator for your computer will cost around $30. All prices are accurate as of August, 2010.

      Get a check up. People studying for pilot's licenses must be at least 16 and healthy. Your flight school (see below) will have a list of local doctors that are approved by the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) to give physicals to pilots and potential pilots.
