Meet with a conversation partner. Many colleges and universities offer programs for individuals who speak English as a second language. These programs will arrange individuals with partners who speak English fluently. The meetings are usually held once a week in informal places such as coffee shops. Conversation partners speak with non-natives and encourage conversation in order to enhance an individual's English-speaking skills. Often the best way to learn a new language is by practicing oral exercises.
Visit the library. Many local libraries carry at-home language learning resources like books, CDs and DVDs. Simply ask your librarian where you can access these resources. If the library should not have any in stock, many libraries will order educational materials for you if requested. You can find many English tutorials at the library for a minimum fee or no fee at all.
Enroll in an English as a Second Language, ESL, course. A majority of colleges and universities offer ELS classes to non-native speakers. These classes will instruct non-native speakers using a wide range of exercises, including reading, writing, speaking, role playing and observing. Contact someone from the college admissions and ask about enrolling in an ESL course.
